StartMail Business is $6.99 per user per month, so one mailbox is $83.88 a year and three is $251.64 — it prices per person, which means a portfolio of domains costs the same as a team of that size. Their Personal tier is cheaper at $59.88 but permits exactly one custom domain, so it is not a like-for-like against unlimited. StartMail is a privacy product: managed PGP, unlimited disposable aliases, Netherlands jurisdiction. We offer none of those and are US-hosted, so if encryption by default is why you are shopping, that is a real difference and not a price question. If what you need is many addresses across many domains in one place, ours does not move with headcount.

Who this is for
Anyone holding several domains, or adding mailboxes for roles rather than people. Per-seat pricing punishes exactly that shape, and it is the shape a portfolio owner has.
Deliverability and what a privacy host does differently
StartMail and JustEmails both authenticate properly — SPF, DKIM and DMARC on every domain — and at ordinary volume that is what decides inbox placement, far more than whose IP range the mail leaves from. Neither of us will beat the other on reputation at a few hundred messages a day.
Where the two diverge is what happens when a record breaks. Authentication does not fail loudly: mail keeps leaving, signatures silently stop verifying, and the first anyone hears is a customer saying they never received the reply. A nameserver change at the registrar, a DKIM key dropped during an unrelated DNS edit, a DNSSEC signature left behind after a provider move — each of those is invisible from inside your own inbox.
JustEmails re-checks MX, SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MTA-STS on every verified domain every six hours, emails you the first time one stops resolving, and fires a webhook if you want to route it somewhere. Across a handful of domains that is a convenience. Across a portfolio it is the difference between finding out in six hours and finding out in six weeks.
One honest asymmetry: PGP changes the threat model in a way monitoring does not. If your requirement is that we could not read a message even under legal compulsion, StartMail's end-to-end encryption answers that and our TLS-in-transit plus encryption-at-rest does not.
What per-seat pricing does to a domain portfolio
StartMail Business allows unlimited domains, so this is not a sprawl argument — it is a headcount one. Their bill scales with people; a portfolio owner's mailbox count scales with domains instead.
Three people on Business is $251.64 a year. Ours is $49 whether that is three mailboxes or three hundred, because the charge is against the account rather than the seat. If your mailboxes map to functions — one per domain, one per client, one per project — per-seat pricing charges you for structure you did not choose.
The tier split matters too. Personal at $59.88 is the cheaper rung most people meet first, but it permits one custom domain, so it is not an option for a portfolio at any price. The comparison that holds is Business.
Common questions
Is StartMail Personal not the fairer comparison, since it is cheaper?
It is the tier most people land on, which is why we show it — but it allows one custom domain. Comparing a one-domain plan to unlimited domains would flatter us by comparing a different product, so Business is the row we quote and Personal is shown next to it.
Do you offer PGP?
No. Mail is encrypted in transit with TLS and at rest on our storage, but there is no end-to-end encryption and no key management. If you need PGP, StartMail does it properly.
What happens to my aliases if I move?
Aliases carry over as normal aliases. What does not carry is StartMail’s disposable-alias workflow, where a throwaway address is generated per signup and burned later. We have aliases; we do not have that lifecycle around them.
Where is my mail actually stored?
On our own infrastructure in the United States, not a reseller’s. That is a real difference from StartMail and it cuts against us for anyone whose threat model includes US legal process.
